About the course

This Master of Research (Chemistry) develops advanced critical thinking and problem-solving for professional practice in the natural and physical sciences. You’ll undertake supervised research to plan, analyse, evaluate and communicate outcomes from sophisticated research and development problems, building capability to contribute original knowledge. It is designed for graduates progressing toward specialist R&D or further research training in chemistry at the master-by-research level.

What you might learn

You’ll build mastery of theoretical knowledge in chemistry and critically reflect on its application. You’ll learn to investigate and synthesise complex information, generate and evaluate abstract ideas, and design and assess appropriate research methods. The course also develops advanced communication skills to present sustained arguments and disseminate research plans and results to peers, industry and the wider community, culminating in research that contributes original knowledge.

Career outcome

Graduates are prepared for research-focused roles in laboratories and R&D environments across universities, government and industry. Typical pathways include research assistant/associate positions, analytical or laboratory scientist roles, and progression to doctoral study.
