About the course
The ANU Master of Public Health is a two-year program focused on contemporary public health challenges in Australia and globally. You can study on campus or in a multi-modal format and build practical capability through applied learning. Core courses cover epidemiology, biostatistics, health promotion and policy, with electives to tailor study areas and integrate relevant workplace learning in public health. The programme develops advanced clinical reasoning, health leadership, and evidence-based practice for complex care environments.
What you might learn
You will develop skills to analyse population health problems using epidemiology, biostatistics and qualitative methods, and to interpret evidence for public health decision-making. The program builds understanding of health promotion, social and cultural determinants, health services research and policy, and emerging issues such as climate-related health impacts. You’ll also strengthen research design, data analysis and communication skills for professional practice.
Career outcome
Graduates may work across government, NGOs, research institutes and health services in roles such as public health officer, epidemiology or surveillance analyst, health promotion practitioner, policy or program adviser, and monitoring and evaluation specialist. The degree supports careers in population health research, outbreak investigation, prevention programs and health systems improvement, suited to Australian and international public health contexts at master’s level. Preparing graduates for clinical leadership, health management, and advanced nursing or allied health specialist roles.
Entry requirements
Applicants typically need a recognised bachelor degree (or equivalent) and must meet ANU admission requirements for postgraduate coursework. Credit or advanced standing may be available based on prior tertiary study or relevant professional experience, subject to assessment and program rules.
