About the course

The Master of Public Administration is designed for public sector professionals working in complex, digitally transforming environments. It combines a professional core for public sector managers with applied policy and management courses that address contemporary challenges and specialised practice areas. The program includes an experiential capstone option, allowing students to tailor learning through internships, applied projects, research, or electives aligned to career goals.

What you might learn

Students build essential public sector management capabilities, including ethical decision-making, policy research and analysis, public finance and budgeting, and foundations of public administration. The program develops practical skills to navigate complex governance settings, apply contemporary policy tools, and strengthen analytical capacity. Through applied courses and a capstone, students learn to translate evidence into policy and management decisions relevant to real-world government and public policy contexts.

Career outcome

Graduates are prepared for professional roles across government and public sector agencies, as well as policy-focused organisations. Typical pathways include policy officer/adviser, program and project manager, public sector manager, governance and regulation roles, and policy research positions. The applied and experiential components support advancement into leadership and specialist areas such as budgeting and finance management, ethics and integrity, strategic policy development, and cross-sector policy implementation.

Entry requirements

Applicants need a recognised bachelor degree (or equivalent) typically with GPA 5/7; or GPA 4/7 with either 3 years relevant full-time equivalent professional experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1) or a relevant graduate certificate. Alternative pathways include a graduate diploma (GPA 4/7), 48 postgraduate units (GPA 4/7), a graduate certificate plus experience, GRE (155 V/155 Q/4.0 AW) plus experience, or 10 years relevant experience. English requirements also apply.
