About the course
This Master of Philosophy (Design and Built Environment) is a research degree where you undertake a supervised project that makes an original contribution to knowledge or professional practice. You will develop advanced research capability and critical thinking, supported by Curtin’s applied, industry-linked research environment. The program typically takes up to two years full-time (or part-time equivalent) in architecture and the built environment. The programme applies rigorous engineering research methods to address complex technical challenges and advance sustainable innovation.
What you might learn
Develop mastery of relevant theory and critical reflection, and build the ability to investigate, analyse and synthesise complex issues. You will generate and evaluate advanced ideas, design and apply appropriate research methods, and communicate research plans and findings to specialist and non-specialist audiences. The degree culminates in research that contributes original knowledge and/or professional practice in the built environment.

Graduates typically pursue research-focused pathways in universities, government and industry, contributing to evidence-based practice and innovation across the design and built environment sector.
