About the course

The Master of Music (Opera Performance) is a professional training program at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music focused on elite preparation for opera singers and répétiteurs. It develops performance craft through intensive vocal coaching, lyric diction (Italian, French and German), ensemble work, role development, acting and music performance research. Students also engage in performance opportunities, including potential industry placements with professional opera companies in Australia and internationally.

What you might learn

Students develop advanced operatic technique and professional stagecraft through coached rehearsal-to-performance training and reflective practice across a wide range of repertoire. The course builds specialist skills in role preparation, collaborative rehearsal processes, lyric diction and ensemble performance, supported by acting studies and music performance research. Graduates are prepared to operate at a professional standard in operatic performance and related rehearsal contexts.

Career outcome

Graduates may pursue careers as professional operatic vocalists or as répétiteurs working in rehearsal and performance settings.
