About the course
Drawing on pioneering research and insights from the University of Melbourne and leading education researcher John Hattie, this online program prepares teachers to design more effective teaching interventions that support individual student growth. It focuses on strengthening classroom practice through evidence-based approaches, including analysing learning needs and applying research to improve teaching impact. The course also develops specialised skills in student assessment and observation to improve learning and development outcomes.
What you might learn
Students learn to generate, interpret and evaluate multiple forms of student data to plan appropriate interventions at individual, group, team and school levels. The program builds understanding of key theories of how students learn so educators can accurately identify and address student learning needs. Graduates develop expertise in assessment and in evaluating their own impact to provide instruction targeted to individual student needs.
Career outcome
Graduates are equipped to strengthen their professional practice as teachers in early childhood, primary and secondary school settings by using evidence and data to drive instruction. The skills developed support roles focused on assessment-informed teaching, targeted intervention planning, and improving learning outcomes within classrooms and schools. The program can also underpin progression into instructional improvement and data-informed practice leadership responsibilities within education settings.
