About the course
Deakin’s Master of Counselling develops advanced analytical and communication skills to support individuals, couples and groups experiencing mild to moderate mental health, wellbeing and life challenges. You’ll apply contemporary counselling theories and talking therapies while exploring specialist areas such as trauma, grief, relationships and diverse client populations. The course includes 200 hours of placement and prepares you for professional practice in modern counselling settings as a master’s qualification in psychology and mental health.
Career outcome
Graduates may pursue counselling roles across community, education, health and wellbeing services, supporting clients through assessment, intervention and referral for a range of life and developmental issues. Practical placement experience helps build capability to work ethically with diverse individuals, couples and groups, including via digital and telehealth channels. The degree can support progression into senior practice, coordination, leadership or supervisory pathways in counselling and related mental health services as a master’s qualification in psychology.
