About the course

This Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work prepares you to support people experiencing mental health challenges using lived experience in a professional, ethical way. You’ll build practical skills for peer support, communication, boundaries, self-care and working within mental health services and community settings. The course is delivered on campus at RMIT’s Melbourne City campus as a vocational Certificate IV qualification in mental health and peer practice. The programme introduces counselling basics, community support skills, and behavioural science fundamentals.

Career outcome

Graduates can pursue entry-level peer worker roles in community and clinical mental health services, supporting consumers through recovery-focused programs and day-to-day wellbeing. You may work in not-for-profit organisations, public health services or community support agencies, contributing lived-experience perspectives to service delivery. Typical pathways include mental health peer worker and consumer peer support roles aligned to a Certificate IV qualification in psychology-related mental health practice.
