About the course

This double-degree combines the Master of Architecture with the cross-disciplinary Master of Urban and Cultural Heritage, focusing on the social and cultural dimensions of the built environment. It develops architectural creativity alongside rigorous study of heritage, history and culture, preparing students to interpret, manage and conserve urban and cultural heritage in global cities and communities. Students complete intensive design studios culminating in a research thesis and may choose electives in areas such as digital architecture, practice, sustainability, society and culture.

What you might learn

The course aims to build advanced design capability through studio-based learning that integrates aesthetic, technological, programmatic, environmental and social considerations in building production. It develops professional skills for leading or working within cross-discipline project teams and managing architectural practice, with a strong emphasis on environmentally sustainable design, materials and technologies. It also aims to provide a solid grounding in architectural history, theory and technology together with heritage knowledge for conservation and management contexts.

Career outcome

Graduates can pursue architectural careers that draw on both advanced design training and expertise in urban and cultural heritage, working across the built environment sector. Potential pathways include roles in architectural practice, multidisciplinary design and project teams, and organisations involved in heritage interpretation, management and conservation. The combined qualification supports work across public and private sectors engaged in sustainable building, urban development and cultural heritage projects.
