About the course

The Master of Architectural Engineering provides an internationally recognised qualification focused on the architectural, engineering and structural design of buildings. Teaching draws on expertise from both the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology and the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning. A dedicated capstone/thesis and a fully integrated final year bring the two disciplines together through a practical project.

What you might learn

Students develop advanced understanding of engineering principles underpinning infrastructure and building design, informed by architectural history, theory and contemporary practice. The course builds knowledge of real-world practice contexts such as environmental and technological constraints, regulatory frameworks and project delivery systems. It also aims to strengthen technical and creative design capability across different urban and environmental scales while considering economic, social and cultural factors.

Career outcome

Graduates are prepared for cross-disciplinary roles that combine building design with structural and engineering expertise, applicable across international contexts. Career pathways can include architectural engineering, structural/building design engineering, and participation in integrated design and construction project teams. Skills developed support work across the building and infrastructure sectors where coordination of design, materials, building systems and project constraints is required.

Entry requirements

English language requirements: IELTS 6.5 with no band less than 6.0. Stream availability notes indicate a 3.5-year stream for graduates with an undergraduate degree in architecture or civil/structural engineering, and a 4–4.5-year stream for engineering graduates with a non-civil/structural background (assessed case-by-case with duration determined at application).
