About the course

The Master of Applied Psychology is a 1.5-year full-time postgraduate program for psychology graduates focused on applying advanced psychological principles to real-world challenges across commercial, public and social sectors. It emphasises behavioural insights, consumer decision-making and the science of influence, combining psychological theory with advanced data analytics. Students gain an interdisciplinary experience through subjects delivered across psychological sciences, business and economics, and population and global health.

What you might learn

Students develop mastery in social psychology, persuasion and consumer behaviour, alongside rigorous qualitative and quantitative research methods. The course aims to build the ability to translate behavioural data into evidence-based strategies for marketing, public policy and behaviour change initiatives. It also develops practical, industry-relevant skills through applied learning pathways including an internship or applied research project.

Career outcome

Graduates are prepared for roles applying behavioural science and consumer insights in business, government, social research, not-for-profit and health sectors. Career pathways include behavioural insights and policy roles, marketing and consumer research, program evaluation and behaviour change strategy positions. The course is designed for industry application and does not lead to professional registration as a psychologist.

Entry requirements

Psychology graduates. The MAP is primarily designed for students with a three-year undergraduate major in psychology; applicants with a fourth-year honours program or a previous master’s degree in psychology may be eligible for Advanced Standing (Recognition of Prior Learning). English language requirement: IELTS 6.5 with no band less than 6.0.
