About the course

Melbourne Business School's Master of Actuarial Science is an accelerated graduate pathway that prepares students for the actuarial profession through rigorous training in actuarial theory, techniques and data-driven modelling. The program emphasises analytical and problem-solving skills with a particular focus on applying actuarial models in contexts such as insurance and superannuation. Students can also broaden their studies with electives from areas such as economics, finance and management.

What you might learn

Students develop strong quantitative capability to explain, apply and critically evaluate actuarial models and methodologies in real-world decision-making. The course builds skills in analysing complex data, using actuarial principles and communicating technical results clearly to different audiences. It also supports professional development through industry connection and a pathway toward meeting Part I requirements of the Actuaries Institute for eligible high-performing students.

Career outcome

Graduates are prepared for roles applying actuarial modelling and risk analysis across insurance and superannuation, as well as broader financial risk and analytics contexts. The training supports careers as actuarial analysts and emerging actuaries, with skills that are also relevant to quantitative roles in finance and consulting. Participation in the actuarial student society and the broader business alumni network can help graduates build professional connections and access career opportunities.

Entry requirements

Designed for non-actuarial graduates and suitable for graduates who have mathematical or statistical specialisations (e.g. mathematics, physics or engineering). English language requirement: IELTS 6.5 with no band less than 6.0.
