About the course

Curtin’s Secondary Education major is a one-year pathway for aspiring teachers who want to teach Years 7–12 in Australian secondary schools. You’ll build on existing disciplinary knowledge and develop practical teaching skills through a focused major teaching area (no minor). Graduates are eligible for teacher registration in Western Australia and may seek mutual recognition in other states and territories. This is a postgraduate teacher education pathway in Education & Teaching.

Career outcome

This major prepares graduates for secondary teaching roles, with strong demand for qualified teachers in Western Australia, including areas such as design and technology, English, humanities and social science, and mathematics. Career pathways include secondary school teacher and International Baccalaureate teacher, as well as education roles such as policy development officer, special programs officer, trainer/mentor/coach and curriculum designer.
