About the course
This advanced diploma prepares experienced maritime industry workers for higher-level marine engineering duties and supports progression toward AMSA certification. You study mechanics, thermodynamics, electrotechnology and naval architecture, with emphasis on electrical/electronic/control systems plus operation and maintenance of marine engineering plant and equipment. The program is full-time with a heavy weekday study load, aimed at Advanced Diploma-level marine engineering practice.
Career outcome
Graduates may pursue marine engineering roles on vessels, supporting progression toward AMSA certification pathways for engineer class 1 (chief engineer unlimited) or engineer class 2 (second engineer unlimited), subject to required sea service and AMSA assessments. Typical work involves operating, troubleshooting and maintaining shipboard propulsion, power generation and control systems.
