About the course
This diploma is a tertiary preparation pathway for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who want to progress toward initial teacher education. Delivered in Away From Base mode, it supports studying while living and working in your local community, with four one-week residential blocks on campus each year. Early Childhood and Primary units are available in this mode, building readiness for further teacher education study at diploma level. The programme develops classroom assistance skills, child development knowledge, and educational support practice.
Career outcome
Graduates may find employment in school and education settings in support roles, using foundational knowledge of learners, literacy, numeracy and Indigenous perspectives gained during the program. The course is designed as a pathway into further teacher education rather than a teaching qualification, so roles may include education support work and related community-based education assistance. Outcomes align with a Diploma in Education & Teaching preparation pathway. Preparing graduates for teacher aide, early childhood support, and education assistant roles, or degree articulation.
