About the course
This Graduate Diploma provides a specialised coursework pathway into marine and Antarctic science, drawing on Tasmania’s location as a gateway to the Southern Ocean. You’ll build strong foundational knowledge with access to IMAS facilities and expert staff, and can tailor study through a Fisheries Management or Marine Biology stream. Field and study-trip style units connect learning with fisheries, aquaculture and marine research in Tasmania and beyond. The programme deepens scientific methodology, data interpretation, and applied research skills for laboratory and field-based careers.
Career outcome
Graduates can pursue roles supporting marine and Antarctic science across government, research and industry. The course builds practical and analytical capability relevant to fisheries management, aquaculture and seafood industries, marine biology and conservation, and applied marine monitoring. It also provides a pathway toward further postgraduate study, including progression to a Master of Marine and Antarctic Science in the environmental and marine sciences domain.
