About the course
This course introduces the role of geology in the resources industry and is designed for students without prior technical knowledge. You’ll build skills in geological terminology, ore body description, exploration approaches (including geophysics and geochemistry), drilling and resource estimation. The course also includes a geoscience exploration project and has some field-based components. This is postgraduate study in mineral exploration geoscience. The programme deepens scientific methodology, data interpretation, and applied research skills for laboratory and field-based careers.
What you might learn
You’ll learn to apply geoscientific principles to improve exploration outcomes, solve mineral and energy exploration problems using analysis of geoscience information, and synthesise and visualise exploration datasets with digital tools. You’ll also consider the finite nature of Earth resources and the social and environmental impacts of exploration, work respectfully with diverse perspectives including First Peoples, and collaborate safely and ethically across the resources value chain.

Graduates can use this qualification to support a career shift into geology-related work or to strengthen technical capability in the resources sector.
