About the course
Designed for science graduates and working police/forensic professionals, this graduate diploma builds practical skills for supporting criminal investigations. You’ll complete eight postgraduate units focused on reconstructing crime scenes and collecting, processing and interpreting biological, chemical and physical evidence. You’ll also develop expertise in quality assurance, contamination control, statistical interpretation and presenting admissible evidence, including delivering courtroom testimony in forensic practice.
What you might learn
You’ll study key forensic disciplines such as bloodstain pattern analysis, chemical criminalistics (including toxicology, trace analysis, illicit drug identification and HAZMAT scenes), digital and cyber forensics, forensic anthropology and archaeology with clandestine grave examination, fingerprint and impression evidence analysis, and expert witness skills for presenting evidence in court.
Career outcome
Graduates may pursue roles supporting investigations across policing, national security, defence and other investigative agencies. Typical opportunities include crime scene or forensic investigator, forensic biologist, forensic chemist (including for police, fire and emergency services), forensic analyst, or forensic researcher in universities or government organisations. The course may also lead to work in pathology laboratories (e.g., toxicology or molecular diagnostics) or private forensic consultancy in forensic science.
