About the course
The Graduate Diploma in Built Environments (Advanced) allows you to develop skills by creating an individualised course of study. With approval from the Course Coordinator, you can choose subjects across the broad range of disciplines offered by the Melbourne School of Design. The course is designed for students who want flexibility, do not wish to specialise immediately, or want to enhance an existing relevant qualification through advanced study.
What you might learn
Students build advanced knowledge in built-environment disciplines by tailoring a study plan to their interests and goals. The course aims to strengthen analytical, design and professional capabilities through graduate-level subjects selected across Melbourne School of Design offerings. It supports exploration of different discipline areas while developing a coherent pathway for further study or professional development.
Career outcome
Graduates may pursue roles across built-environment fields where broad, cross-disciplinary knowledge is valued, including planning, design support, construction and built-environment consultancy contexts. The flexible structure can help professionals upskill or pivot into new areas within the built environment by adding advanced studies to an existing qualification. It can also support progression into further specialised graduate study in architecture, construction, planning or related areas.
