About the course
This Graduate Diploma offers a unique, full-year in-country study experience to build advanced Japanese or Indonesian language capability alongside deeper cultural and regional knowledge. You complete two full-time semesters at partner universities in Japan or Indonesia, with opportunities to study topics such as literature, media, history, politics and society. The program is designed for graduates seeking postgraduate credit through immersive language and area studies.
What you might learn
You’ll develop advanced proficiency in Japanese or Indonesian, strengthen your understanding of contemporary and traditional culture and society, and build knowledge of key regional contexts including history, politics, economics and religion. The course supports language development alongside interdisciplinary study to help you operate confidently in academic and professional settings.

Graduates can pursue roles that value strong Asian language skills and cross-cultural capability, particularly related to Japan or Indonesia. The course supports career development in areas such as language teaching, foreign affairs and diplomacy, public service and government, business and international engagement, hospitality and tourism, and media roles including journalism.
