About the course
The Diploma in Computing is a concurrent diploma taken alongside an undergraduate degree at the University of Melbourne, designed for students with or without prior programming experience. It develops core skills in programming, online solution design and web application development, building practical computing capability that complements a primary degree. The diploma can be fast-tracked in some cases through cross-crediting and/or overloading with approval.
What you might learn
Students build foundational computational thinking and programming skills and learn how to design and implement online solutions and web applications. The course aims to equip students with practical IT knowledge valued by employers while allowing them to broaden their expertise alongside their main undergraduate studies. It also supports accelerated completion pathways through approved credit and study-load arrangements.
Career outcome
Graduates can pursue entry-level roles where computing skills complement another discipline, including junior software/web development and digital solutions support positions. The diploma strengthens employability across industries that rely on web applications and online systems by providing practical programming and solution-design capability. It can also support further study pathways in computing-related fields taken in conjunction with the student’s primary degree.
