About the course
This apprenticeship-level Certificate III builds practical horticulture skills for work in parks and gardens. You’ll learn to work safely and productively in outdoor environments while applying a broad range of hands-on techniques and using equipment appropriately under supervision. Training is competency-based and typically completed over around three years, depending on industry needs, in the horticulture and grounds maintenance sector. The programme develops laboratory safety, sample handling, and basic analytical techniques for technical roles.

Graduates can pursue trade-level roles across the parks and gardens industry, applying a broad range of skills in varied outdoor settings. Work typically involves selecting and operating equipment, coordinating resources, and using judgement to respond to changing conditions on the job. Common job outcomes include gardener, greenkeeper, and grounds person roles with councils, parks services, sporting facilities, and landscape or grounds maintenance employers. Preparing graduates for laboratory assistant, quality control, and science technician roles, or degree articulation.
