About the course
This trade qualification builds the practical skills and knowledge to service and repair mobile plant and heavy machinery in the automotive service and repair industry. You’ll learn to diagnose faults and work on key systems such as engines, electrical circuits and hydraulics. The course is designed for apprenticeship training and supports work in mining and heavy vehicle maintenance at Certificate III level in mechanical trades. The programme focuses on applied engineering drawings, workshop skills, and technical maintenance competencies.

Graduates can pursue roles supporting the maintenance and repair of mobile plant and heavy machinery across automotive, mining maintenance and heavy vehicle sectors. Work typically involves diagnosing faults, completing routine servicing and carrying out repairs on engines, hydraulics and electrical systems under workshop and site conditions. This Certificate III in mechanical trades helps prepare apprentices for technician-level work with mobile plant equipment. Preparing graduates for engineering technician, draftsperson, and technical service roles, or degree articulation.
