About the course
This apprenticeship-focused Certificate III develops practical skills to service, repair and diagnose faults in light motor vehicles. Training covers core mechanical systems such as engines, transmissions, suspension, steering and brakes, plus automotive electrical and electronic engine management systems. You’ll learn using contemporary techniques and real workplace-style scenarios to meet current and emerging industry technology needs in light vehicle mechanical technology. The programme focuses on applied engineering drawings, workshop skills, and technical maintenance competencies.
Career outcome
This qualification supports entry to, or progression within, the automotive light vehicle service and repair industry. It is designed for apprentices and developing workers who carry out mechanical work on passenger and light commercial vehicles, building capability in routine servicing and more complex fault diagnosis across mechanical and electrical systems. Typical employment outcomes include work as a Light Vehicle Mechanical Technician in workshops and dealerships. Preparing graduates for engineering technician, draftsperson, and technical service roles, or degree articulation.
