This entry-level qualification prepares you for work in the maritime industry, building the minimum skills required to operate as a coxswain on commercial vessels up to 12 metres in length. Training focuses on practical near-coastal operations and foundational seamanship to help you start in vessel operations. It is a Certificate II programme in maritime operations for near-coastal coxswain roles. The programme emphasises applied skills, workplace readiness, and technical competency for industry entry.

Graduates can pursue entry-level roles in maritime and commercial vessel operations, with pathways toward working as a Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal on vessels up to 12m. The course can also support employment as a deckhand or similar operational crew role where basic vessel handling and on-water safety skills are required.
