About the course
This Certificate II course introduces high school students to the automotive industry through CQUniversity’s Start TAFE Now (in-schools) program. It builds foundational mechanical knowledge and safe workshop practices while exploring key automotive areas such as light vehicles, heavy vehicles (diesel fitting) and auto-electrical. The qualification is designed as an entry-level pathway to further trade training and early work exposure in automotive services. The programme focuses on applied engineering drawings, workshop skills, and technical maintenance competencies.
Career outcome
Graduates gain basic skills and industry awareness suited to entry-level support roles in automotive workplaces and training environments. Typical outcomes include trades assistant or automotive/vehicle service assistant roles, and trainee positions supporting technicians in workshops. The course also provides a starting point for progressing into further vocational training in automotive mechanical, diesel fitting or auto-electrical pathways at Certificate level. Preparing graduates for engineering technician, draftsperson, and technical service roles, or degree articulation.
