About the course

This introductory Certificate II builds foundational skills for entry-level work and further study in apparel, fashion and textiles. You’ll practise producing a simple garment, creating patterns, sewing designs and drawing fashion sketches in a simulated workroom environment using industrial sewing machines and industry equipment. Completion can provide a pathway into the Certificate III and supports assistant roles in the fashion industry. The programme trains digital design tools, visual production, and portfolio development for creative workplaces.

Career outcome

Graduates can pursue entry-level roles supporting fashion and apparel production and retail. Typical opportunities include fashion assistant or fashion design assistant roles, manufacturing assistant positions, and work as a machinist or milliner’s assistant. The course also provides a stepping stone to further vocational study in apparel, fashion and textiles at Certificate III level within the design and fashion sector. Preparing graduates for junior designer, production assistant, and multimedia support roles, or degree articulation.
