About the course
This nationally recognised Certificate IV is designed for people already working in building and construction who want to move into higher-responsibility roles. You’ll develop skills in building codes and regulations, workplace health and safety, contracts, supervision, and project management. Study flexibly on campus at SMB or online with supported learning, and use the qualification as a pathway to further study in the building and construction field. The programme focuses on applied engineering drawings, workshop skills, and technical maintenance competencies.
Career outcome
Graduates can progress into supervisory and management roles across residential and small commercial construction. The course supports development of practical capability in planning, compliance, communication and contract administration needed on site. Typical outcomes include work as a builder, leading hand, site supervisor, site manager or construction manager, using Certificate IV-level skills in building and construction. Preparing graduates for engineering technician, draftsperson, and technical service roles, or degree articulation.
