About the course

Designed for working professionals and recent graduates, this graduate certificate builds capability in technology governance across data governance, digital transformation and managing technological change. It focuses on how regulation, policy and governance frameworks respond to disruptive technologies, with knowledge that can be applied across government, industry and civil society. The program is delivered in person through the ANU College of Law, Governance and Policy.

What you might learn

You will develop practical understanding of contemporary technology governance issues, including regulatory approaches to disruptive and emerging technologies. The program strengthens skills in policy design and analysis, governance and compliance thinking, and navigating legislative and regulatory environments relevant to areas such as cybersecurity, privacy, data protection and digital economies. Study includes core courses in technology governance and regulation with options to tailor learning through electives.

Career outcome

Graduates may pursue roles connected to technology regulation and governance in public policy and regulatory environments. Typical pathways include positions in Commonwealth and State digital transformation departments, policy and better-regulation units, compliance and enforcement teams, and organisations supporting cybersecurity, privacy and data protection. The credential can also support work in advocacy and civil society organisations focused on digital economic activity, health and consumer safety, and technology policy.

Entry requirements

Admission is competitive and requires meeting academic/non-academic and English requirements. Standard entry is a Bachelor degree (or international equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 4/7. Applicants without a bachelor degree may be considered based on substantial work experience: at least 5 years in regulatory system design/monitoring/compliance/enforcement roles (with employer evidence), or 10 years in ANZSCO Skill Level 1 roles.
