About the course

The Graduate Certificate of Public Policy builds practical knowledge and professional capability for people seeking to broaden or deepen skills in public policy. Drawing on coursework from ANU Crawford School masters offerings, it lets you tailor study across areas such as policy and governance, applied economics for government, climate and development policy, and national security. It can also support progression to a related master’s program with appropriate course choices.

What you might learn

Students develop foundations in analysing and designing public policy, informed by real-world government and community contexts. The program supports building skills in evidence-based decision-making, policy evaluation, and understanding governance and institutional settings. Through elective choice from relevant master’s-level courses, students can strengthen technical expertise in areas such as economics, environment and development, or security policy aligned to their professional goals.

Career outcome

Graduates may pursue roles in public policy and program areas across federal, state or local government, statutory authorities, and policy-focused NGOs. The qualification is also relevant for policy, regulatory and stakeholder roles in the private sector and consulting, especially in areas such as economic policy, climate and environment, development, governance and national security. It can support career advancement or transition into policy advisory pathways.

Entry requirements

Applicants need one of: a Bachelor degree (or equivalent) with GPA 4/7; or a Graduate Diploma/Certificate (or equivalent) with GPA 4/7; or 24 postgraduate units with GPA 4/7. Alternative entry may be via GRE (minimum 155 Verbal, 155 Quant, 4.0 Writing; taken within 5 years) plus 3 years relevant ANZSCO skill level 1 experience, or 5 years relevant experience.
