About the course

This Graduate Certificate provides a structured introduction to economics for students with little or no prior economics study. Delivered in person through ANU’s College of Business and Economics, it builds core analytical capability and confidence in understanding economic debate and policy discussion. The program comprises 24 units of foundational coursework across microeconomics, macroeconomics, quantitative methods and statistics.

What you might learn

You will develop fundamental economic reasoning and quantitative skills used in contemporary analysis. The program introduces microeconomic and macroeconomic frameworks, mathematical techniques for economic analysis, and applied statistics. Together these build the ability to interpret data, evaluate economic arguments, and apply core tools to real-world business, finance and policy questions.

Career outcome

Graduates can use the qualification to support roles requiring economic literacy and analytical thinking across business, finance and government settings. It can assist careers in policy support, economic and market analysis, consulting, banking and financial services, and corporate planning. The skills gained are also suitable preparation for further postgraduate study in economics and related disciplines.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have either a Bachelor degree (or international equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 4.0/7.0, or at least 10 years’ work experience in an ANZSCO Skill Level 1 role. Applicants must also meet ANU English language requirements. Admission is competitive and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an offer; ranking may consider GPA calculations and, if needed, higher English proficiency.
