Wildlife Conservation (Extended Major)

About the course

This undergraduate extended major focuses on Australia’s unique fauna and the ecological and evolutionary processes that produce high biodiversity. You’ll examine key threats to wildlife and habitats and explore practical management strategies and policy approaches to help protect and restore species and ecosystems. It is suited to students building a strong foundation for science-based conservation work in environmental science. The programme develops laboratory techniques, scientific writing, and analytical methods for research and industry settings.

Career outcome

Graduates may pursue roles in wildlife and biodiversity conservation across government agencies, environmental consultancies, parks and land management organisations, and conservation NGOs. The major supports pathways into field and research support roles, conservation planning and policy, threatened species and habitat management, and community or stakeholder programs focused on protecting Australian fauna.
