About the course
Visual Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music is a year-long honours specialisation focused on advanced, independently led studio practice. Students develop studio projects through investigation and experimentation with concepts, materials, techniques and processes, alongside critical and theoretical studies and professional arts practice skills. The program includes opportunities to present work publicly through regular student exhibitions and the annual end-of-year exhibitions.
What you might learn
Students will deepen their independent studio practice by developing ambitious projects supported by experimentation and research-informed inquiry. They will strengthen critical and theoretical understanding of contemporary visual art, building the ability to articulate and defend their ideas and practice. The course also develops professional practice capabilities to support work as a practicing visual artist.
Career outcome
Graduates may pursue careers as professional visual artists, producing and exhibiting work across contemporary art contexts. The program supports pathways into arts practice and associated roles that draw on critical and theoretical expertise, including independent projects, exhibitions and broader cultural engagement. It also provides a foundation for further practice-led or research-oriented study in visual art.
Entry requirements
This program is for students that have completed an undergraduate degree in the visual arts, either at the Victorian College of the Arts or another institution, who wish to extend their practice and develop their research ability.
