About the course
Deakin’s accelerated Bachelor of Vision Science/Master of Optometry prepares you to qualify as an optometrist through intensive study of vision science, optics and eye health care. You’ll build skills in clinical assessment, treatment and management of eye and vision disorders, supported by evidence-based practice and practice management. The course includes short industry placements and a final six-month residency, with exposure to metropolitan and regional settings in optometry at Bachelor/Masters level.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared to pursue registration and work as optometrists in Australia and New Zealand, providing primary eye care across clinical and community settings. Career pathways include practice-based optometry, regional and rural eye health services, collaborative eye care clinics and roles supporting ocular health assessment and management. The strong clinical placement and residency focus helps build readiness for supervised practice and patient-facing roles in optometry at combined Bachelor/Masters level.
