About the course
In the Tailored specialisation you can design your own course of study according to your musical strengths, interests and vocational aspirations. You choose from academic electives, performance-based subjects, introductions to composition and music analysis, career preparation subjects in arts administration and management (including an internship), and a project-based capstone subject. It sits within the Bachelor of Music (Degree with Honours) and supports professional and further study pathways in music.
What you might learn
The specialisation aims to let you build a personalised honours-year program that matches your strengths and career direction in music. Through performance, academic and creative options, you develop advanced musical understanding and specialised capability. Career preparation and capstone project experiences build professional readiness, including management and workplace-informed skills.
Career outcome
Graduates may pursue careers across the music profession depending on their tailored study focus, including performance, composition-related work, and roles that combine music with analysis and research skills. The career preparation subjects support pathways into arts administration and management, including internship-informed experience. The honours year also provides a pathway to graduate coursework and research opportunities in music.
Entry requirements
The Tailored specialisation is for students who have completed an undergraduate music course at the University of Melbourne or equivalent studies at another institution.
