About the course
This Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) is an alternative final year for high-achieving students from UOW’s Bachelor of Social Work, combining advanced social work concepts and theory with intensive professional practice. You’ll build research design and methodology skills and complete a research project linked to your final-year placement. The honours year is taught by social work experts and strengthens capability for evidence-informed practice in social work. The programme explores human behaviour, research methods, and applied psychology for community and organisational settings.
Career outcome
Graduates expand on standard social work career pathways with added capability in research and program evaluation in community, government and human services settings. The honours year supports roles involving evidence-based service design, quality improvement and evaluation, alongside professional practice. It also provides a foundation to progress into postgraduate research study. Outcomes align with an Honours qualification in Sociology & Social Work.
