About the course
The Bachelor of Secondary Education (English) prepares you to teach English in secondary schools, building skills in classroom management, lesson planning and student engagement. You will combine education studies with discipline knowledge in English and gain practical experience through supervised professional placements. This on-campus undergraduate degree at UOW is designed to help you inspire a love of learning in adolescents as a secondary English teacher. The programme develops classroom practice, curriculum knowledge, and educational psychology for teaching professions.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared for careers in secondary education, with a focus on teaching English in years 7–12 settings. You may work as a secondary school English teacher across public or independent schools, supporting literacy development, critical reading and writing, and communication skills. The degree’s professional experience component supports job readiness for classroom practice in secondary Education & Teaching.
