About the course

The Bachelor of Science (Psychology) provides a science-focused foundation across core areas of psychology, including development, social and personality psychology, health and mental health, cognition, research methods and biological bases of behaviour. As you progress, you can explore specialised topics such as neuroscience, counselling and organisational psychology. After completing the third year, eligible students may apply for an Honours year as a pathway to postgraduate training.

What you might learn

You will build understanding of how people think, feel and behave, grounded in scientific theory and evidence. The program develops skills in psychological research design, quantitative methods and critical evaluation of findings, alongside knowledge of cognition, development, social processes, personality, health and psychopathology. Later study supports applying these capabilities to specialised areas such as neuroscience, mental health, counselling and workplace psychology.

Career outcome

Graduates can pursue roles that value psychological science skills, including research and data analysis, policy and program evaluation, health and wellbeing services, human resources and organisational development, community and government services, and marketing or behavioural insights. The degree can also be a stepping stone to accredited psychology pathways; undertaking an Honours year and further postgraduate study is typically required to practise as a psychologist or clinical psychologist.

Entry requirements

Applicants must meet ANU program-specific academic and any non-academic requirements, plus English language requirements. Admission is competitive, so meeting the minimum does not guarantee entry. Indicative minimum selection ranks shown include ATAR 80 or IB 30. ANU may assess applicants using academic achievement, English proficiency and relevant diversity factors, and requirements may change.
