About the course

The Science Education Major (Physics) (BEd Secondary) builds strong physics content knowledge alongside teaching methods for secondary classrooms. You’ll develop the pedagogical skills to teach Physics in Years 11–12 and support broader Science teaching from Years 7–12. The major also prepares you to teach Mathematics as a minor teaching area across Years 7–12, within a secondary education degree pathway in teaching. The programme develops classroom practice, curriculum knowledge, and educational psychology for teaching professions.

Career outcome

Graduates can pursue secondary school teaching pathways focused on physics and general science across Years 7–12, with preparation to also teach mathematics as a minor area. This major supports careers in schools and education settings where strong STEM teaching capability is needed, including roles such as secondary Physics teacher, secondary Science teacher, and Mathematics teacher (minor area), within a Bachelor-level teacher education qualification in Education & Teaching.
