About the course

This interdisciplinary degree explores the relationship between mind and brain by integrating philosophy, neuroscience and psychology. You study conceptual questions about consciousness and cognition alongside biological and psychological approaches to behaviour. The program leverages ANU research strengths and facilities, including leading neuroscience expertise and resources, to support a research-informed learning experience that encourages innovation, collaboration and boundary-crossing thinking.

What you might learn

You develop the ability to analyse mind–brain questions using perspectives from philosophy, neuroscience and psychology. The program builds critical thinking and logic, introduces research methods, and strengthens scientific and quantitative reasoning. Through integrative coursework and advanced study, you learn to evaluate evidence, connect theories across disciplines, and engage with contemporary research on cognition, perception, behaviour and the neural systems that support them.

Career outcome

Graduates are prepared for roles that value interdisciplinary analysis of brain, mind and behaviour. Pathways may include research assistance and later postgraduate study in neuroscience, psychology, cognitive science or philosophy, as well as work in health and medical research environments, policy and ethics, data and behavioural insights, education, or science communication. The strong analytical and research foundation supports careers in research-focused organisations and innovation-driven sectors.

Entry requirements

Entry is competitive and is based on meeting the published academic selection ranks. The indicative minimum requirements listed are ATAR 97 or IB 41 for admission consideration. Applicants may also be able to access information about prerequisites and any available adjustment factors through ANU admissions pathways. Additional application guidance is provided through the university’s apply and first-year advice resources.
