About the course

Pharmacology explores how drugs affect living organisms and underpins careers in drug discovery and development. In this major you build core pharmacological principles for the safe and effective use of medicines, including dose–response, toxicity, metabolism and elimination. You develop practical skills through computer-based simulations and laboratory work, using modern drug analysis techniques and investigating molecular, cellular and physiological responses in an undergraduate pharmacology discipline major.

Career outcome

This pharmacology major prepares you for roles supporting drug discovery, development and the safe use of medicines across research and health-related industries. Graduates may work in biomedical and pharmaceutical research, laboratory and analytical services, clinical research support, biotechnology, regulatory and quality environments, or continue into further study. The major is designed to complement biomedical sciences pathways and builds a foundation for undergraduate career directions in pharmacology and related life-science fields.
