About the course
This course is designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples seeking registration as a midwife. It prepares students for entry-level practice across maternity settings, with a focus on culturally safe care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and families. Study is delivered in an away-from-base mode, enabling students to stay in their community while attending four one-week residential blocks in Brisbane each year. This is a Bachelor-level midwifery qualification in Nursing.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared to work as registered midwives across hospitals and community maternity services, supporting women through pregnancy, labour, birth and postnatal care with a strong focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. Career pathways may include midwife roles in maternity units and community services, as well as consultant or clinical specialist positions, pre-natal education, research, and family and child health centre work. This is a Bachelor-level midwifery programme in Nursing.
