About the course
This Chemistry major explores the building blocks of matter and the reactions that shape the world. You’ll study core chemical principles across organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry, with a strong focus on laboratory work, analysis and scientific problem-solving. The major can be added within a Flinders science degree and links chemistry to real challenges in health, materials, energy, food, environment and industry at bachelor level. The programme develops laboratory techniques, scientific writing, and analytical methods for research and industry settings.
Career outcome
Graduates with a Chemistry major develop practical laboratory capability and strong analytical thinking suited to a wide range of science-focused workplaces. Career paths commonly include laboratory or analytical roles in environmental monitoring, food and beverage testing, pharmaceuticals and health, materials and manufacturing, energy, and government or defence laboratories. The major also provides a solid foundation for honours and further research training in chemistry and related sciences at bachelor level.
