About the course

Interactive Composition is an honours specialisation for students working in commercially driven music making across sound and other media. You undertake a major practice-based creative project that can span areas such as film and animation, dance, theatre, advertising or games. The specialisation culminates in a public or portfolio outcome (for example an installation event or folio) supported by a dissertation in music. The programme develops design, animation, visual storytelling, and digital media production for creative industries.

What you might learn

Students develop advanced practice-led skills in interactive composition and applied music creation across a range of media contexts. The specialisation builds capability to conceive, produce and present a major creative work to a professional standard while integrating critical research and reflection through a dissertation. It supports preparation for professional practice and provides a pathway to graduate coursework and research in music.

Career outcome

Graduates may pursue work as composers and sound creators for film, animation, theatre and dance, or as sound designers and music producers for advertising and games. The major project and dissertation also support pathways into further graduate coursework or research in music and related creative disciplines. This honours specialisation strengthens portfolio-ready outcomes for professional practice in performing arts and media. Preparing graduates for graphic design, multimedia production, advertising, and creative studio roles.
