Indigenous Knowledge, History and Heritage

About the course

This undergraduate major explores Indigenous ways of knowing and how they shape understandings of history, culture and heritage. You’ll examine Indigenous perspectives on the world, the impacts of colonisation, and contemporary approaches to recognising, protecting and interpreting heritage. The major develops critical thinking and culturally informed communication skills for working with communities and institutions. This is a Bachelor-level major in Arts & Humanities. The programme combines disciplinary knowledge, applied learning, and graduate competencies for professional career entry.

Career outcome

Graduates can apply Indigenous knowledge and heritage perspectives across government, education, museums and galleries, cultural organisations, community programs and policy settings. The major supports roles that involve research, consultation, cultural capability and heritage interpretation, and can complement pathways into further study in Indigenous studies, history, heritage and related disciplines.
