Indigenous Australian Cultural Studies Specialisation

About the course

This undergraduate specialisation introduces Indigenous Australian perspectives through four units covering Indigenous lifeways, values and beliefs, history and the impacts of colonisation, and contemporary narratives of resilience and celebration. You’ll explore Native Title and connection to Country, and examine Indigenous cultural practices and creative arts from antiquity to the present. The specialisation emphasises cultural protocols, ethical practice, and immersive, reflective learning including site visits on Country.

Career outcome

This specialisation can strengthen cultural capability for roles that work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and contexts. It supports careers in community engagement, cultural and heritage organisations, education support, policy and advocacy, and industries where ethical practice and cultural protocols matter (including government and not-for-profits). It may also complement professional pathways in business, science or engineering by improving cultural awareness and communication in diverse workplaces.
