About the course
This honours degree prepares you to design and engineer ships, submarines and advanced marine systems for defence, shipping and ocean technology. You build strong core engineering foundations at Flinders, then complete the final two years at the Australian Maritime College in Tasmania with specialist study in hydrodynamics, systems design and ship structures. The Bachelor of Engineering (Maritime) (Honours) includes practical experience and industry connections across both institutions.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared for maritime and naval engineering careers spanning ship and submarine design, marine systems integration and offshore industries. Typical pathways include naval architect roles focused on vessel structures and performance, marine systems engineer roles covering propulsion and onboard systems, and work in subsea engineering, automation and control for autonomous vessels, or defence project engineering. This Bachelor of Engineering (Maritime) (Honours) supports careers in shipbuilding, defence, offshore energy and marine technology.
