About the course

The Bachelor of Computing provides a broad introduction to computing and computer science, letting you approach the discipline from technical software-building pathways or more conceptual and organisational perspectives. You build strong foundations in programming, the structure of computers and the computing profession, with options to tailor your studies through specialist majors. The program can also be combined as a flexible double degree with many other ANU degrees.

What you might learn

You will develop core skills in programming and computational thinking, alongside an understanding of how computers work and how computing is applied across industries. The program builds capability with abstraction through mathematics and theoretical computer science, supporting problem-solving and software design. Through electives and majors, you can deepen expertise in areas such as systems, data, security, intelligent computing, human-centred computing or information systems.

Career outcome

Graduates are prepared for roles across sectors where computing skills are in demand. Depending on your major, potential pathways include software developer, systems or network specialist, cybersecurity analyst, data analyst/data scientist, information systems or business analyst, and roles in intelligent systems and human-centred technology. The degree supports work in government, consulting, finance, technology companies, research organisations and other industries undergoing digital transformation.

Entry requirements

Applicants must meet ANU undergraduate admission requirements. The published selection rank includes ATAR 80 or International Baccalaureate 30 as indicators. Prerequisites and any eligible adjustment factors may apply depending on your pathway. Applicants should also satisfy any program-specific requirements listed by ANU for the year of entry and apply via the relevant admissions process.
