About the course

The Chinese major develops practical language ability and cultural understanding for engaging with China and Chinese-speaking communities. You’ll build literacy across listening, speaking, reading and writing, while exploring Chinese culture and society. The major suits beginners and students with prior Chinese study, with advanced classes available. It is studied within Curtin’s Bachelor of Arts and can be combined with a second major or electives in Arts & Humanities. The programme develops classroom practice, curriculum knowledge, and educational psychology for teaching professions.

Career outcome

Graduates can apply Chinese language and intercultural skills across roles that involve international engagement and communication. Career paths may include foreign affairs or trade officer, interpreter/translator, research consultant, tourism information officer, tour guide, welfare worker, or ESL-related teaching roles (with an additional teaching qualification).
