About the course

Murdoch’s Bachelor of Biomedical Science lets you explore medical science through up-to-date theory and extensive hands-on practical laboratory classes. You can tailor your degree with a major or a double major across areas such as biomedicine, microbiology and immunology, clinical laboratory science, genetics and biotechnology, and pharmacology. Study in the Murdoch health and research precinct and build strong foundations for further professional study. This is a bachelor-level biomedical science degree.

What you might learn

You’ll develop in-depth knowledge in at least one medical scientific area (two with a double major), understand how medical science builds knowledge, and gain experimental and technical lab skills through investigations and analysis. You’ll learn to retrieve, evaluate and synthesise medical scientific information, keep up with current research trends, and apply discipline-specific skills such as clinical immunology techniques including flow cytometry for immunophenotyping. This learning is aligned to a bachelor-level biomedical science degree.

Career outcome

Graduates can pursue roles across government and private health and science settings, with opportunities shaped by your chosen major. Potential careers include medical researcher, medical scientist, molecular biologist, biochemist, pharmacologist, microbiologist, biotechnologist or technologist, as well as specialist roles in government, legal or biomedical marketing. The degree can also support entry to postgraduate vocational pathways such as medicine, pharmacy, forensic science or teaching. This is a bachelor-level biomedical science qualification.
